This years Cloth Paper Scissors 2012 Calendar is a beauty...don't miss it! They asked readers to create a piece of mixed-media art inspired by their home sweet home, their neighborhood, the street they lived on, or where they wished they lived-whatever mixed-media vision came to mind with the phrase "On the street where you live".

December's Birthstone is Turquoise

Probably one of the most recognized semiprecious gemstones is existence, Turquoise has been popular since prehistoric times. It occurs naturally in shades ranging from sky blue to grey-green.
Turquoise means "Stone of Turkey". Although Turquoise doesn't actually originate in Turkey, it earned its name because it was traded in Turkish bazaars.

Throughout history, Turquoise has been thought to protect and bring good fortune to those who wear it. The color is even used in hospitals to evoke a calming effect on patients who suffer from anxiety or depression. December could not ask for a birthstone with greater heritage and meaning.

Aquamarine Means "Sea Water"

Aquamarine is a blue-green variety of the mineral Beryl. Aquamarine means "sea water" and amulets of this stone engraved with a depiction on Poseidon were believed to protect sailors. It is associated with cleansing, serenity, inspiration, tranquility, peace and strength. It calms fears and helps us get in touch with the nature spirits of the sea, as well as promoting safe travel on water. It is useful for someone seeking closure, as it offers emotional perspective. Aquamarine also is said to protect from perils of the sea, including seasickness.

November's Birthstone is CITRINE

The name Citrine comes from the French "citron", or "lemon", for its color, and is actually a type of Quartz. Most Citrine today is actually heat-treated Amethyst. Natural Citrine is not common and occurs in lighter hues than the heat-treated material.

In ancient times, Citrine was carried as a protection against snake venom and evil thoughts.Today it is valued for the treatment of depression and is said to eliminate self-destructive tendencies. It is also purported to stimulate memory and aid digestion. Citrine symbolizes light-heartedness, joy, happiness, wisdom and peace and is said to enhance creativity and motivate writers.

JASPER

The name Jasper means 'spotted stone'. It is generally an opaque stone which can be found in many colors including red, brown, pink, yellow, green, grey, white and shades of blue and purple. Jasper stones are usually multi colored, striped or spotted and the color of the stone depends on the type of mineral that permeates the rock.

There are many myths and legends that surround jasper, due to its popularity spanning many centuries.
'Flower' Jasper is said to lift spirits, soothe a broken heart (by activating the heart chakra) and help one break out of depression. It is also claimed that Jasper is known to sustain and support in times of stress. Some say it gives you the courage to speak out and the bravery to achieve personal independence. This stone also aids in quick-thinking, promotes organizational abilities, and sees projects through. A powerhouse of a gemstone, jasper is said to stimulate the imagination and transform ideas into actions.
