Provence lives with its vicious Mistral winds, which blow 30-60 mph 100 days out of the year. The Mistral clears people off the streets and turns lively villages into ghost towns. Locals say when the Mistral blows, it's everywhere and you can't escape.
Therefore, every window and door has a solid wooden shutter to close off the homes and businesses.
